Charles Darwin

Was Charles Darwin a Unitarian?

He's often been included in "famous UU" listings, but his connection with Unitarianism has been challenged.

He intended at one point to become a Church of England parson, but became a naturalist instead. He is often described as an agnostic.

The Unitarian Church in Shrewsbury, England, has a memorial tablet to Darwin which says he was "a member of and a constant worshipper in this church." His mother was a Unitarian and young Charles was sent for a year to a Unitarian day school. For more details, see this biography.
